Yotaphone 2 Review – Specs & Price
Just as touchscreen phones used to be something that could only exist in James Bond movies, a phone with two screens may sound like a farfetched idea if only because our desperation for longer battery life in one-screen smartphones remains to be a wish. Interestingly, the 9mm thin Yotaphone 2, which comes with a 5-inch, 1080p AMOLED touchscreen and an electronic paper (E Ink) display on the other side, came out to be an impressive example of what a well-thought out and carefully executed innovative idea can turn out to be. With all its features, Yotaphone 2 is definitely geared to hold up well against the more conventional smartphones you’ll find in the market and we take a deeper look below in our Yotaphone 2 Review.
Two heads are better than just one and the same thing seems to hold true for Yotaphone 2. It doesn’t take a genius to know that everytime we lock and unlock our phone’s screen to look at the time, to get some weather update and to quickly check our mails or Facebook, the phone’s battery gets used up. With Yotaphone 2’s low-energy e-paper screen, you can do all that and more without the need to frequently turn on the screen. On the second screen, you’ll be able to see your notifications, check the time, your phone’s battery level, your calendar, the weather, and have customizable metrics without quickly draining your battery. Thus, you’re phone’s battery can last a long time without limiting the things you’ll be able to do with it.
The white and black electronic paper display also comes with 960 x 540 pixel resoution and is great to use for reading with book apps like the YotaReader, Bookmate, Google Play, and Scribd. Simply said, it’s a fully functional smartphone that works like a Kindle without eating up too much of the battery and compromising quality and capacity. To enable you to choose and customize the screens that you would want to include on the e-paper screen, the YotaPhone 2 comes with a YotaHub app and a number of Yota’s own screens, which you can change and edit depending on your needs and preferences. Some of the screens can also display your messages, contacts, maps and music player. You can also create your own screen using the different widgets made available by Yota.
With the many things you’ll be able to do on the second screen, you’ll practically have very little need for the color screen. The YotaMirror awesome feature allows you to view all your applications through the e paper display, and enables you to browse over your home screens as if you were viewing on the color screen. And even outside with full sunlight, you can easily view and read from the e-screen display without straining your eyes. You may need to switch to AMOLED screen from time to time but the benefits of having a low-energy e-screen would most likely keep you from missing the color screen. Yotaphone 2 comes in a solid, sturdy, and smooth built with round edges.
