A Review of the New ASUS ZenFone 3 4G Phablet
Contents
Smartphones have gone through so much innovation over the years. Unfortunately, not all attempts to innovate and come up with something that actually works and makes sense have been successfully executed. But not all hope is lost because while most phones have plateaued, there are still some that managed to break the mold, and one of these is the fully redesigned ASUS ZenFone 3 powered by Qualcomm. So, if you want to find out what makes this phone a cut above the rest, then here’s a quick look at what it’s made to offer in our ASUS ZenFone 3 Review.
Design and Build
ASUS Zenfone 3 models’ new premium design and build is definitely out to establish its position within and outside Asia’s highly saturated and competitive market for smartphones. And with such high ambition, Asus decided to make some major changes to and give Zenfone 3 some serious cosmetic makeover by making it thinner, sleeker and more durable as it now comes with an all-metal aluminum-grade body, chrome trimmings, and glass back panel sporting Asus’ concentric circle design with varying light accents.
Display and Multimedia
ASUS Zenfone 3 4G Phablet has two versions and both are outfitted with Full HD Super IPS+ display mounted with 2.5D Gorilla Glass 3. Geared with a 5.5-inch screen is ZE552KL while sporting a 5.2-inch screen is ZE520KL. Apart from its premium display, Zenfone 3 models also come with high quality loudspeakers with built-in presets and equalizer. And with high-caliber multimedia system, and screen display, which produces great viewing angles and well-saturated colors that you can also change to Balanced, Vivid or Custom based on your preferred settings, there’s barely any reason why you wouldn’t find this phone interesting enough to merit your attention.
Camera
The new ASUS Zenfone 3 now comes with a 16 megapixel sensor featuring Laser and Phase-Detect AF. To keep the camera from shaking when taking photos, the phone has a 4-axis OIS on-board. And even with dim lighting, you can easily lock in your subject with its quick autofocus. Able to capture details and produce good image quality with well-saturated colors, it’s fair to say that the upgrade was well worth the investment that ASUS made in refurbishing the Zenfone 3, which comes with a good range of in-camera mode options such as Auto, Manual, Pro, Low Light, Panorama, QR Code, Miniature, Time Lapse and many more. It also has a rear camera and an 8-megapixel front camera, which comes with wide angle-lens and is great for taking some casual selfies in bright conditions. The camera is also able to shoot 4K resolution video clips at a rate of 30fps.
Battery Life
ASUS Zenfone 3 uses the same 3,000mAh Li-Po battery used in previous generations. The ZE552KL model registered a little more than 13 hours of battery life in PC Mark’s battery bench while the smaller 5.2 variant, ZE520KL registered a little less than 13 hours of battery life. Given that the new Zenfone 3 now has thinner built, it’s quite an improvement.
Cons
The ASUS ZenFone 3 4G Phablet has a lot of great features, however, the one downfall to this product is the price tag. You certainly are paying for the quality and features of this phone.
